What a crock ! its not just voltage you want to increase but its amps aswell. spend the money on a redarc dc-dc charger. that's one of my next buys for the nav!

Yep... Got one on our Prado.... It works by fooling the ALT that the charging volts are too low & therefore increases the charging volts by 0.5volts usually. Built in the Fuse is a small Diode that is in series with the fuse. With Diodes there is usually a .08v drop across diodes and this is how it fools the ALT.

With our Prado, the voltage increase was about .5v above what it would normally be charging at.

I'm waiting to receive one for the Navara as well and will post the results..... I'm hoping that this will just help improve the charging ability with having the AUX Battery mounted in the rear Tub section. I was talking with a battery specialist today and reading between the lines I will still need to "properly charge" the battery once every 1>2 mths if I want the battery to last though.

Good to hear let me know how it goes

Yeah, you're right, but without the voltage u can forget about utilising all the ALT current output capacity. If u don't have the correct output voltage level more amp capacity is not really going to help. Increasing the volts this way is a "cheap" way of utilising the ALT output current capacity. Sure u can replace your ALT with a better current output ALT but if u don't have the right volts, then you're not going to use it to its full potential, especially when loaded up at night time. The more u load up your ALT the more the output voltage will slowly decrease (ie: with a std Nissan ALT).

OK... I've installed mine and did the following test:

1. Warmed up the car to get to running temp
2. Checked volts with normal fuse in - 14.08volts
3. Stopped engine and installed booster fuse
4. Started engine and rechecked voltage - 14.62volts

Difference of an average of .54volts. This will help with charging a Aux battery in the rear of the car.... when I put one in that is.

It's got help even with charging your battery under the bonnet. With the modern batteries these days req'ing upwards of 14.4 to 14.7v to charge properly, its gotta help.

Where to put the new fuse?

Heya, I'm struggling to find where to put this fuse, can find nothing labelled at all. Any help on where it's located would be much appreciated! (2010 and onwards D40 STX)

I would throw it away and get a good dc/dc charger instead, but that won't answer your question. You need to check your charging voltage then replace each fuse until you find the rise in voltage. Try the main ones first before something like the horn fuse, I'm not even sure if your D40 has a smart alternator, if it does that booster would probably not do anything to improve your recharge times, if that is what you are trying to achieve.

mod

If you disconnect the green wire (green wire mod) you don't need a dc to dc charger I get constant 14+ volts in tub to charge second battery

Yes we all can achieve that with good cable, I guess it's personal choice to go to a dc/dc charger, one that is highly recommended for the battery to have a full life.
