    D40 chassis failures (rust)

In the UK and Ireland we're seeing quite a few 2006-1008 D40s with fatal rust issues in the chassis. Until now Nissan UK etc. have not acknowledged the problem. However this is the latest from the Emerald Isle and if it's true could be a breakthrough...

    '13 st d40

I wouldn't trust a Thai chain any more than the previous one. It may be of better quality but it is still a single row chain driving the fuel pump, vacuum pump and then the duplex chain driving the camshafts. A quality duplex conversion is the only way to have piece of mind unless you are...

With a 2013 model, you will have a while before you need to worry about the timing chain. This guy seems to be one of the best in Aus. http://www.yd25.com.au/index.php/timing-chains/diagonise-a-timing-chain-fault One word of caution though. In the UK there have been a number of cheap...

    Average fuel consumption

35mpg is pretty good, is yours a Euro3 or Euro4? The remap sound impressive, where did you get it done? My 2007 Euro4 gets about 30mpg. My EGR blanked is off completely, and I have fitted DTE PDi and CRD chips. My Viscous fan is in the bin as well.

Timing Chain Failures and Oil Filters

Hi Black Outlaw, what make was the chain kit that only lasted the 40k kms?

    What Euro Spec?

A 2007 Spanish built D40 will be a Euro4 (black rocker cover) as Old Tony pointed out.

Manual D40 rolling whilst parked in gear - compression loss?

What gear are you leaving it in? What make was the clutch and flywheel?

    resurfacing

I think you are mixing up the cylinder head with the crankshaft. The crankshaft in the YD25 have been known to fail/snap shortly after they have been reground because of possible thin case hardening. There is no special surface on the cylinder head, so regrinding/resurfacing it is quite...

    Loss of power

It could be a failed EGR valve

Timing Chain Failures and Oil Filters

I have, and the cause is the single chain being fitted to a more powerful engine. (Than the D22 with a duplex setup) The single chain is not up to the job and it stretches prematurely. Owners of vehicles with timing chains should be able to expect the chain to last the complete lifetime of the...

loud rattle when start up and quietens when half temp

When you changed the chain, did you fit a new upper tensioner? If so was it a genuine Nissan one?

    YD25 injector pump replacement

It can be done without removing the lower timing chain BUT if the pump is that bad the chains must be near the end of their life. You may as well do the duplex chain modification while you're in there.

D40 yd25 plastic vs alloy rocker cover

The alloy top engine will be a Euro3 spec. It will work but the ancillaries such as the fuel pump, injectors, EGR system, and the catalytic converter would have to come from your old engine. If you don't use these parts there could be a conflict with your Euro4 ECU. While you are changing the...

D40 yd25 plastic vs alloy rocker cover

The rocker covers will be interchangeable. Why do you want to do it?

Timing Chain Failures and Oil Filters

Sorry Tony, but I don't agree with you on this. The tensioners are fine, the upper tensioners do fail but they make a noise when they do, giving you early warning. According to Billcar (The independant YD25 experts in the UK) the lower tensioners never fail. The D22 up to 2005 in the UK was...
