Rear squel when taking off

Hi All
Have scraping squel from back thought it would be brake from being parked up for few weeks. I’ve been told by a mechanic its rear shaft into Diff. I’ve very limited known but is this common & what needs doin /cost approx. Thanks

Jack it up and get a buddy in drivers seat, then get under there to verify.
