misfire in 3rd gear

my navara misfires and surges when in 3rd gear but doesnt happen in any other gear, can any1 help and tell me what the problem maybe??? thanks

D22 Diesel?

I have not had the issue myself in mine but apparently the neutral switch in the gearbox can be troublesome and lack of power in thid is one of the fist symptoms. When the ECU thinks the car is in neutral it pulls lots of engine power out, if the switch is playing up intermittantly it could feel like a miss.

If you do have the D22 and it has the "Heat" switch near the steering wheel to bring up the fast idle, try turning that on and with the cluch pedal depressed, put it in third gear and wriggle the gearstick around, if the idle jumps up and down then it is pretty likely to be the neutral switch. The fast idle drops back to normal when you are not in neutral.
