Bought a plate off jjohn. It is laser cut and looks like a bought one.
Install took seriously 5 minutes from start to finish. No more smoke!

Done it... Best mod ive done to my car so far. To be honest i was sceptical that this would'nt do anything but it does have a quicker response time when pulling away.

Agreed, definitely a performance boost, especially below 2k rpm. No change in smoke in rear view mirror when taking off at night.

Got some plates from jjohn (thanks) as well. Was gonna fit up on Friday but my mechanic told me that i am a dickhead cause the EGR keeps the combustion chamber pressure down thus prolonging the life of your engine. With this info i went home and installed an exhaust temp gauge. Did a run without and with blanking plates. Huge difference in temp when under load with blanking plates and a little power gain down low and still blows smoke. With the massive change in temp and knowing of all the problems with these engines i have taken it out.

Thats the first time ive herd any down side to doing it.
Every diesel specialist i have ever spoken with says to do it, J.C Diesel, Berrima Diesel, West End Diesel, and even the service manager at my local Nissan said to do it (he also said that i didnt hear it from him)
Isnt it meant to help keep the carbon soot out of the oil so there for extending the life of the motor??
How high were the temps for you to be so concerned???

Hi guys is it only one EGR plate you need or do you have to blank both ends of the pipe on a 2.5l

I just went to Bunnings and bought a little stainless steel letter box sign, then took the original gasket out and traced around it, cut it out, drill the holes and it was done. Then with a little "SENSOR SAFE" silicone slipped it back in the place of the original gasket. cheap as chips and quicker then waiting for one to be sent out to you.

just did the mod 1 week after buying my nav, has 80,000ks on it,
being a marine engineer by trade i of course had to make things difficult for myself,
didnt remove the battery, lol i probably should have but was thinking i knew better,
cut the plate out of a gal house piling post i had lying around (perfect thickness).

took it for a lap around the block, seemed to have better responce, but i cant be certain as ive only owned it a week, but my mate was watching me and said nil smoke on take off (after testing before the mod). so as long as the smokes not there its been an easy win,

free mod and no smoke, happy days.

just did egr mod, I dont reckon there is any better response tbo if there is its very minor, car has 7700kms on it i was surprised with the amount of carbon around there. I to was to lazy to take the battery out only to find when i was finished it wasn't bolted in anyway the battery clamp had come undone :/.
Now the big one I now have a weird electrical style groan coming out of the egr control box thingy that i didnt think was there before :/ Anyone else had this or was it always there and i have just never noticed it?? if someone could stick there head under there bonnet and check it would be much appreciated.
it makes it when you turn the ignition on for approx 30 secs very noticeably with bonnet open standing beside it then for probably 5 secs after you shut the engine down.
