Hi, i always wondered what this is..
Its in the middle of the top of dash. i know it's slightly covered with dash mat. but could someone tell me what this is.

I dont think its an ac sensor
they are usially in the return air filter and being on dash it would suffer from excessive heat
my guess is its an auto headlight sensor or central locking sensor

i thought aircon sensor is at front of passenger seat.

it was just an educated guess
Ive been a refrigeration mechanic for 20 years and I have never seen an ac sensor in such a ridiculous spot

and i saw very same looking sensor on ferrari as well..

yep word to word you are absolutely correct..
reason i asked was because my may came without the hole for the sensor. i did cut it out as picture. and it actually says on manual. do not put anything on or around the sensor.
i guess other sensor i was mentioning is for dual climate control sensor then.

If your car has auto lights it's the sensor for it

its for the compass on the rear view mirror. the sensor for the auto headlights is normally on the a pillar.
