It's definately legal to listen to, how do you reckon most of the media and tow trucks get to incidents so quick.

Its always been legal to listen to,

thats why they are gone/going to digital encrypted.

If that is the case, its does'nt seem to be stopping the truckies, taxi's and couriers using them, and that would mean you cant use one when out in the scrub.
Silly law if in fact it is one.
Not to mention the cops themselves using their radios.

It's true. It is legal to have a scanner and use it on Police frequencies. However, it is illegal to use any information that you receive on that scanner eg. towies, ambulance chasers etc.

In the coming years all of WA will be digital (it should be digital already but the 60 odd million dollars the Government allocated for it was siphoned off last year to build a new toilet in Government house).

Once completed scanners will become a thing of the past unless you want to pay $35K+ for a military spec one.

There are digital scanners on the market now, $1000 they use to be.

Dave.

Yeah, they've been on the market for ages,
though they are no good for police receiving.

Vic Pol anyway, have encryption and TX/RX on differing freqs and are down around the 16oMghz

Ah righto, where ever there is a market someone will come up with a product at a reasonable price to fill the gap.

Dave.

Cfa was enquiring a couple of months ago about how many members had scanners. Cant remember the whole letter, Or if they where looking at replacement
