hey everyone how are you all me and mate have the same cars and we have been doing abit of research on getting a bit more performance out of d22 diesels on the weekend my mates turbo let go so we started calling around too see wats available out there we came across axt turbos i rang them they said they can do a complete turbo kit with garret ball bearing turbo the turbo was water cooled as well also came with different manifold and all nuts bolts and brackets needed to fit turbo system up they guaranteed me an extra %30 more power has anybody has any experience with these systems or any information

o be careful with just quoting power...the car may well be a dog to drive at less than "sweet spot"

I'd be asking for previous customers references and contact details
you can also ask AXT for a dyno graph but really this means SFA when applied to the road

it would be as gazza said above. probably makes 30% more power but with ridiculous lag.

I had a rx7 made awesome power spin through 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th but didn't make any powa under 4500 rpm. useless for day to day street driving but mentally fun on a track or strip.

so be careful it wouldn't be fun in a navara

Remember the turbo ONLY blows "air " some of it can be hot------you need the fuel too to make it happen....so that's another issue which your hip pocket will need to address !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd be interested to see any feedback on this, im not sure about diesels, but generally when you use a correctly sized aftermarket roller-bearing turbo on petrol engine you can have more power at lower boost with cooler charge air temps and earlier spool-up for the same size so can generally go bigger without getting more lag. AXT are just around the corner where i live, i went in there to ask a few questions a while back, they specialise in diesels and 4w4s, seemed very profesional.

Thanks for the feed back everyone my understanding from what the guy told me on the fone was that the turbo the provided was not a great deal bigger but was a ball bearing turbo the kit also came with a different manifold wich he said gives you better exhaust gas flow ther for earlier and better boost i also have a bit of experience with turbo cars and there is no way i want my nav to be a lag monster

I rememeber reading some time ago that Dave got (or was going to get) one of these kits, perhaps he can provide some info?

I have a kit in the shed.

Nothing fits. The studs need to be changed that holds the turbo to the exhaust manifold, if you have a stock exhaust the dump pipe they supply will work.

The induction parts they give you are useless, SFA thought went into the induction parts.

They only worked on getting the turbo to bolt on. They supply coolent lines etc, you have to tap into the heater hoses for the coolent supply.

The oil feed thread is different to the block. You have to cut down the stock oil drain pipe and use a rubber hose.

Andrew is as useless as tits on a bull.

I asked for extra parts and help as nothing fitted and I got nothing.

Talk to Lyndsay at Northside. I am gonna get Lyndsay to fit this turbo and put a UniChip on my D22 in June.

There shop is back open now.

Well dave has just ragged on andrew every one has there opinions mine is as followed.I have been dealing with andrew for years and is one of the most knowledgeable deisel techs i have had the honur of dealing with he has help my workshop nuemerous times. He did the turbo upgrade on my vehicle it was one of the first ones he did and it made a massive improvement do a search i did do a post about it. He installed a gt25 onto the navara which the turbo is nearly twice the size so it flows more air even though he actually lowered the boost fromm 16psi to 12 psi as i dont have a chip to match air fuel atio. The turbo starts spooling from around 900 rpm and doesnt stop till after redline makes the nav one of the nicest smoothest powering 4 cylinder diesel i have ever driven he installed a 3inch pipe straight through as well. just my 2 cents
