Stanley Generators

Hi all I am not a heavy poster but enjoy reading the forum on a daily basis, my question to all the knowledgeable people here is, I am thinking of buying a Stanley STGE2000i 1800W 3HP Pro Series Digital Inverter Generator for general use around the home and to take away camping in the van. Can any one tell me if they are any good

I would be interested to know as well, I used to only buy stanley tools but have noticed over the last few years that their gear is not as good. (and being sold in supercheap ,big w etc is not a good sign)...

I can't say how good the Stanley is. We decided to go for the best we could get, a Honda Eu20Si 2000W inverter.

It's supposed to be the second quietest generator on the market (the quietest is the Honda Eu30 at 51dB, the Eu20 puts out 52dB). It could be heard for some distance at the muster (I had bought ice creams with me, and needed to guarantee they stayed cold - otherwise I'd not have bothered with the genny).

I've had absolutely NO problems with the Honda. It just runs and runs. 10 hours out of a tank of fuel (light load) and the thing has a nice steady hum, unlike the two-stroke things like GMCs etc.

That said, Stanley has a good name. They might have branded this generator rather than made it themselves, which only really means that they're happy to put their name to it.

If you can't afford the $2,000 price tag of the Honda, maybe the Stanley is a good buy. In the Honda's favour: you can link two of them together to get a constant 4KW (8KW surge) and they are extremely accurate in their supply of 240VAC. If the Stanley can couple up and it's fairly accurate, it might be a good buy.

Hope that gives you some things to look at to help you decide.

I brought one before cyclone Yasi hit this year and it ran pretty good. that being said, after about the 3rd day of running straight it was leaking oil, not much at all really but still leaking. Once everything settled down and the shops reopened I took it back and swapped it for another one. Haven't had a problem with this one at all but I haven't tried running it 3 days straight either. If I did it all again i'd probably get a honda or yamaha, just for that ease of starting and knowing that even if has been sitting in the shed for 12months its going to start. the stanley does take a little pulling if its been sitting about for a while.

I also do not know how good a Stanley generator is but I would also be interested because at the moment I am anyway looking for a generator. Whenever I needed a generator in the past I always used generator rentals and I am very satisfied with these kind of services but now I want to buy one. I will take a look at the Honda Eu20Si 2000W inverter, maybe this is the right one for me.

stanley 2ooow generator problem

I have a Stanley 2000w generator that runs for about 15 mins. then stops.
Its new. Any suggestions?

I'd return it, but first I'd check the choke first. If you're leaving the choke on, once it's warm it'll hate the lack of air it's getting.

On the genny topic 3 yrs ago I was in desparate need of a genny for a few days.had to get a scorpion pure sine wave 950w....got it cheap.it may have been returned by another mitre 10 customer....not sure...eventually got the bastard started and ran it for 3 days...got back to it 6 months later and gave it a tune up...fuel,filters,fitted a good plug,oil, reset the float cleaned the jets and reset the way off valve clearances...tweaked the governor and adjusted the voltage output now runs like a charm.2nd pull everytime...
Saying that I still don't trust it but it does work really well....if you stuck with a cheeper one,actually take the time to set up right they can be quite good.unfortunatly they don't get much love from the factory

I have a Yamaha 2.4kva. Quiet as and starts first pull every time. Bit heavy to toss around but great bit of gear.

Another one to consider would be a Kipor.I have the GS 2000 and it has not had any problems,is as quiet as a Honda and the power it produces is very stable and the lights dont flicker whenits being used.It starts first or second pull and i have ran it for over 10 hours without having to refuel.
They are sold in specialist shops and i think also in the new Masters stores.
I cant spaek for the stanley but go with a reputable brand and as i have heard before,"Buy cheap,Buy often"
