soft tonneaus

Hi guys,
I have a 97 dual cab d22 and am looking for a soft tonneau for it. Most of the ones that are marketed seem to say they are suitable from 01 to 08. Is there much difference between the tubs? I know they increased the tub length in the new ones

Someone more knowledgeable than me will hopefully respond, but as far as I know it depends on whether they were made in the same country I believe, ie Japan built utes should have the same trays but Thai and Spanish may not be the same. The first few digits of the VIN describe the country of origin I think (JN is Japan in my case (2003 STR 3.0L).

I also heard the shape of the tailgate (convex or flat) is also a clue, but not sure how true that is.

Hope that is of some use albeit sketchy not factual.
