Finally getting a build thread going. Some of the photos are a bit average but if anyone wants a better photo of anything in particular let me know and Ill do my best.
The car is my daily driver and most 4wding is done on the sand at Inskip point/Double Island point and Fraser Island. Hoping to tackle the Cape in the next 2 years sometime.
History
Bought brand new 2010 D22 STR in June 2010. Factory fitted was Rhino liner, tow bar, canopy, Snorkel. Currently has done 51,000 km.
Mods since purchase (In rough order)
Remote central locking and cruise control
JVC headunit with bluetooth and USB input, GME 3220 UHF
ARB Winch compatible Bull bar and IPF 800 XS lights
DP Chip and EGR blanking
Steel Rear bar with swing away wheel carrier and Dual jerry can holders (plus fridge frame for tub and front recovery hooks)
2 Inch Supension Lift from Driveline Services/Durashock (mates dad Works there)
Dual/Triple battery system with Ctek D250S and 80 amp hour combination battery and 120 amp hour AGM
Just a few more notes on the more unusual mods.
The rear bar was done by Steve Christie from Barworx 4x4 at Gympie. Top bloke, top price, top work, highly recommend to anyone (google barworx 4x4 if interested). He also made the frame for me which is bolted to the tub which sits over my waeco cfx65, and can hold 3x milk crates with gear. And bolted on the front recovery hooks just in front of the chassis to two thickness' of the steel (hope that made sense)
Suspension from Durashock has so far been awesome. Even though it was only a 2inch lift because the original springs had sagged a fair bit it feels like so much more. Ride height is MUCH better and it feels much nicer to drive too.
Dual/triple battery system is basically very similar to a regular Dual battery system, but instead of going straight from the CTEK to the 2nd battery in the tray I went through a marine three way switch (on1/On2/Off/both) and split it to the 2nd battery in the engine bay which I replaced with dual purpose 80ah/cranking battery from positive batteries and to an anderson plug in the back for charging a 120 amp hour AGM from Australiandirect.com
I also ran power to the tub from the 2nd battery in the engine bay with an anderson plug. I did this so on day trips/short trips with lots of driving I could run the fridge from the front battery without taking the third battery, but for longer trips/trips where we sit on the beach all day and dont do much driving (heading to fraser for the entire month of september later this year) I can take a third battery and with manual battery management ensure that I don't run out of juice. Will be adding a solar panel (probably mounted to the canopy to ensure heaps of power when at Fraser and other trips into the future).
Ran 6B&S cable all the way through, Zip tied to the inside of the Chassis rail and Up through a grommet in the back of the tub, closest to the cab. Solar input to an anderson plug screwed to the inside of the outside of the canopy (see photos will make sense) With negatives to the chassis close to the tray for the power/2nd battery charge and solar.
Hopefully the photos will make sense if the explanations did not. Feel free to ask any questions.
Definite Future mods in rough Order.
New tyres, thinking BFG all terrains in 275/70/16, Would like to get my hands on another couple STR rims and paint them black, as opposed to getting 6 new black rims and then rotate and balance them every 10,000K to get maximum life out of the set.
Exhaust, can get either scotts rods 3inch system or beaudesert 2 3/4 from local shops. Possibly get boost and EGT gauges done at the same time. Possibly get catch can done at same time as all this too.
Sliders (from Steve at Barworx) and underbody protection plates/diff protection)
Auxillary/replacement fuel tank - in particular for the planned cape trip
Possible
Calmini Upper control arms
Replace torsion bar (durashock do not make a D22 specific torsion bar)
Air bags to help the leafs when fully loaded?
WAY Further down the track when nothing else to spend money on.
New/replacement Turbo/Intercoolers.
