Last week I had my brother up from Batemans bay ,he own a TF Rodeo 2.6 ltr any way he is down at the shops and his car refuses to start , so being a gold member of the NRMA he gives them a call .
The Road side assists mechanic tell him there is no power to his distributer and suggested he tows go the Penrith NRMA workshop where it can be fixed ,to which he agrees , About 2 hours latter I get a call he tell me that the NRMA mechanics say he needs a new dizzy , I tell to stay put and ill come up and find out what's wrong, Upon arrival i'm told the same ,I tell them it more than likely only needs a ignition module ,
NRMA tell me they only install new parts not repair ,to which I say this vehicle is 17 years old they don't make dizzys for 1998 Rodeos any more , So after waiting one hoyr NRMA admits they cant find a new one or even a second hand one ,
So I ask them what part they need and ill source it and have it by next day the head Mechanic informs me its an Ignition module so I order one off Nepean spares take up next morning only to be told its the wrong part wont fit , So I go over to the Rodeo and take a picture of the plug hanging outside of the Dizzy 4 pins , I go to Repco with the picture and i'm told that's a Crank Angle Sensor not a Ignition module , Back to the NRMA with the right part , fronts the so called mechanic and tell him he sent me on a wild goose chase, he then tell me their the same thing [Where do they get these people from] At this point my brother calls a Auto electrician from Batemans bay that's where he lives and asks him how long should it take to install the Crank Angle Sensor he's told a Max of 1hr 15 minutes .
Two hours latter and with five so called Mechanics all looking under the bonnet , and the hoist going up and down at least 10 times it starts ,
Then he gets the bill even being a gold member and getting a discount its $260 and we supplied the Part ,
Ok so you think that's the end of this LONG tale think again My brother has a Specialist appointment next day in the Batemans Bay so at about 3pm he sets off home, when he get to Nowra he goes to turn on his headlights surprise no lights no horn , no AC Lucky I had fitted some DRL's to the front of his car , so he has to drive the last kilometres in the dark,
next day he goes to his own Auto electrician what does he find 3 blown relays ,
Personally I think the car had a Blown ignition relay and when they replaced the Crank angle sensor the swapped the relays some how blowing another two ,he gets another bill for $85 I tell him to ring the NRAN and demand that they pay as they have caused the relays to blow One Ok two doubtful 3 impossible , Any way they agree its more than likely their fault and will send him an exgracer payment , So my friends the NRMA only know how to fix new cars , plug in the computer and it tells them what's wrong other than that they haven't got a clue ,Sorry for the long RANT ,
