Hey guys,
I'm waiting on delivery of my new D40 4x2 diesel and was wondering why it only has 106kw instead of the 125kw of the 4x4? Can this be upgraded through Nissan or would I have to buy an after market chip?

Yeh good point. Or maybe they just down spec it to push people into the 4x4. Either way it is hard getting the info off Nissan. I know I can get after market chips for between $800 - $1,300 but hoped Nissan could just 're-tune' the 4x4 settings???

I dare say its so you can get the power to the ground, 128kw and 400Nm of torque would be interesting in the wet being a lighter ute by a few hundred kg.

Dave.

The D40 4x4 in 2WD mode is interesting enough in the wet if your foot is a little heavy.

Nissan would probably try to argue that the 4WD version needs the extra power to turn the other two wheels over. There's not a snowball's chance in hell I'm going to be there to tell them that those wheels are on the ground regardless...

Yeh thanks for that.

Although, after looking through this site as well as a few 4x4 magazines ive just bought I'm thinking that maybe I should have gone for the 4x4 instead of the 4x2 so that I could join you all out in the mud/sand/rough etc.

The only 4x4 driving ive ever done was a week in my brothers Patrol 20 years ago up at Rainbow beach QLD and I remember it being great fun.

I wonder if the dealer will let me trade up???

Hmmm.....
