some of us try to hide our love/obsession for our cars from friends and family. Forum is perfect for the double life, better go put the other hat on now. Anyway I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of us wouldn't even be on Facebook, i know I ain't.

I just thort it would be easier for communication thats all just a thort

As much as I really hate Facebook and think it should die a horrible death (just like all those idiots who brought shares in it would now be wishing) I'm interested in the above statement.

What makes logging onto Facebook, reading a heap of messages, posting a few replies and reading some more messages easier than logging onto a forum, reading a heap of messages, posting a few replies and reading a few more messages?

I can understand some forum software actually makes Facebook a preferable medium to the forum because it works better but as far as I'm concerned the VB software on this forum, even the freebie hackable software like the UK nav forum uses is much preferable to the FB medium.

I always wonder why people think Facebook and Twitter etc are the best mediums out there so consider this (if you choose to answer) part of a market research survey

Edit: I think we once had a Facebook link on this site and like all the other forums I've been a part of that include just a simple link to Facebook it slows the bloody forum down. Facebook is the vuris of the twenty first century.

FACEBOOK.... What the ??? Why destroy a perfectly good forum with a crap place like facebook....

Leave Facebook to the GIRLS so they can gossip, complain, etc..... imo

Facebook? NFW! My missus is a facebook friend - I don't need her knowing how much realy gets spent on the truck lol.

if you want to communicate more just get more people using the chat box.
another forum i use we use the shoutbox flat out its pretty much the face of the whole website.
its great for just asking a quick question without starting a useless thread and can just have a chat to others and compare setups and how well they work.

Another no to faceache here.
But i would like to see if it is possible to make this forum less heavy duty on downloads to be able to load it up and read or post.
Of the three forums that i am an active member of, this one is far and away the most intensive for bandwidth and downloads to access.

You say that while having an avatar, a signature, a garage and probably surfing with images turned on :ha:

As far as I'm concerned without seeing the actual figures this site appears to run fairly lean, moving avatars, embedded videos etc all do take their toll but most of the time this site runs alot smoother than many other busy forums.

But the first thing i do when the page is loading is stop it as soon as the "collapse arrows" show up, to collapse all that i am not interested in...
My avatar is tiny, my sig is only plain text and the garage only loads for those who actively load it. Nothing different than the other forums i am on... and a long way leaner than many others here. Besides browsing without images "on" on a forum is like reading one of the many .gov Acts.

Wasn't hanging shit, was only making a point that everything everyone of us does has the potential to slow the forum down and with every new member that potential increases.

1400+ garages, 8000+ members, 13,000 threads (and my 13,000 posts) all add up and even if only a small percentage of those 8000 users are on at any given time the system is still keeping track of all 8000 and their garages, avatars, signatures etc. That makes for a fair size database and for the most part the system runs quite smoothly with that database.

One could compare this site to the likes of Whirlpool that has over 500,000 members and seems to run quite fast but that would be an unfair comparison given that WP run purely unique code and no one but the upper echelon know how it works. VB databases/forums like this run quite efficiently with what they offer to the end user. Also Whirlpool breaks more often that this site does it's just their mods are quick to blame outside influences every time the site does break down because they don't want people thinking the forum is having issues.

Once again no shit stirring intended and WP is only one forum but everything needs to be taken in context and in context navara asia does a bloody good job.
