Hey, I'm Michael, new to this forum. Have owned the nav since new about 6 months ago, I do a lot of beach driving, and up in the sand dunes. I'll upload a few photos,

From stock I've put 265/70 ATs on, black sports bar from an stx 550, tray liner and cover as well as a tow bar. Got the windows tinted at 17% all round. Spent $3500 on upgrading the sound system.

Love the car and it's ability being so standard, although I have had one major problem, the front differential exploded!!

Typically it wasn't under warranty so I've only just fitted a new one. Will be getting a front air locker next week.

Look forward to seeing what you all think.

Cheers - Michael

Also after the air locker next week I have a safari snorkel and tough dog lift kit ordered so she will be sitting a little higher.

looking good.. i dont see why it wouldnt be under warranty if your warranty hasnt ran out. i would fight it. get opinion from non dealer mechanic

They said it was due to mis-use which is hard to believe as it was in sand, I tried fighting it but nissan won't budge

Welcome mate.

Shit! That has let go in the biggest possible way. I gather it was the grenaded internals that broke the casing?? The front diff are not the strongest things but surely that must be claim.

Typical Nissan tho once you drive out of the driveway your on your own.

nice d40! I would definately be fighting about that warranty too.. the diff shouldn't blow when its only 6 months old! not sure how driving in some sand can be classed as 'mis-use' when its a 4x4.

Surely you couldn't have caused it it do that.

Take it further :)

cheers
Mark

I thrash the guts out of my chipped d40 with 33"muddies on the beach and dunes(deep soft sand too)never ever heard a wimper from either front or rear diff..I'd be pissed off!!

Nice rig.
Yeh I listen to all the above. Diffs don't just let go from a bit of beach driving. If it can't handle that then they have just mislead the entire country with their ad been the toughest tradie out there and able to tow a tank out of trouble!!

That is my exact argument but honestly it's not worth the hassle, the Ute was sitting at nissan for a month whilst I argued day and night. It got to the stage where I just needed the car back so had to get a second hand one from a wrecker and fit it myself. And yeah it was the gears that failed first causing the housing to crack like that.

Ah well, a nice air locker will stop that free spinning shock loading :)

Welcome!
You'll find a few stories here about Nissan refusing to honour warranty on 4WD components.

But don't let that stop you from enjoying your Nav. I used to be a Hilux man, but my D40 handles the beach much better than the 'lux.

just go Fair trading.. those issue will solved within days.. ask for replacement of car if not repair. say it doesn't fit the purpose of the vehicle. if driving sand is mis use.. not sure why you sell 4x4 from first place. it's not like you bashed your diff into rock purposely.

The nav has spent a few days at arb!

Deluxe winch bar
Snorkel
mounted air compressor
OME lift kit
Front air locker.

Sits much better now. Gained 65mm on the rear and 45mm on the front. Locker works a treat! Very happy.

Few more goodies, fitted some arb sidesteps and side rails, full bash plate set from arb, a set of Narva 235 HID, A gme radio and aerial, and just fitted front and rear diff breathers up to the engine bay.

Id love to see some more photos of that Compressor location!!!

But a mighty fine rig you've built there :)

Do your self a favour and double check that air box, the arb boys down here didnt bother to tell me they didnt seal mine at all when they put the snorkel on....

Hi Mike I'll attatch a photo of the compressor mounting, the boys at arb here have always done a top notch job and everything is well above standard :)

In that last photo of the set of four there's the round thing from the end of the compressor up near snorkel what's that if the compressor is down the front??

Here are some photos of the interior, the stereo, the uhf and just the switch locations.

Sorry about the cloudy pics, the Ute is in the garage so lighting was poor

Hi mate, sorry for double posting but that round thing is a manifold with a small filter. This is where I have hooked up the diff breather tubes too, there are still 2 free ports so I will put breathers on the transfer case and gearbox and run them to that manifold.
