Hi there

I have an opportunity to purchase a hard lid for my D22 DX at a VERY good price.

It comes with all brackets, but does NOT come with struts. What do the struts actually do and can this be installed without them? Otherwise can I source struts elsewhere or just say goodbye to this deal as without struts its not worth it?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

The struts obviously keep the lid up when open (and assist in opening the lid).
It's a PITA without them.

I would still buy it if you want it as you can get generic struts and fit them later. I bought some mail order from a canopy place in Melbourne together with some locks, pins and other parts that my S/H hardlid didn't come with and fitted them with no problems. The struts have a ball and socket arrangement at each end to attach from memory.

I replaced the struts in mine not long after I got it. From memory I think it cost about $75 for the pair (don't quote me on that). Got them from Trembath Driveshafts. Probably worth giving them a call - I reckon they'd post for you.

strut replacements

you can get straight from Flat Top in dandenong its listed on their website under Nissan

Older D22s have a shorter tub than newer D22s so measure it before you buy it.

I've purchased light gas struts from http://www.ovesco.com.au/. Very economical if they have what you need.

Also heavy ones from http://www.strutsaustralia.com.au/ who have one almost totally fuscked online ordering system. I think it only works on IE.

Many sites will show you how to calculate the force you need. something like;
Weight(Kg) X 10 X Length-of-cover/distance from hinge to strut attachment point= Newtons required.
