Hi All,

Recently fitted 33'' MTZ's to the D22 and had me thinking. The general rule appears to be that with the larger tires, you are more likely to have issues with the CV joints. I plan on seeing a CV specialist to get some advice on track side repairs, but my question is: is it really something to be super concerned about? Do those running 33's on the forum have many issues with their CV's? Any info would be great thanks! :)

just be careful, you tend to break CV's with to much wheel spin when one tyre is in the air then slams down and gains traction.

agreed, however ive broken two diffs doing this, my cvs held out fine.

id say make sure yours are services, good boots, fresh grease etc etc and if your doing a super long trip take a spare.
not an eBay special, a Nissan made one, i hear they are different. ebay specials have worse angular movement due to cheaper ball pivots or some BS.

if you don't already know, learn how to remove them, when you good at it, you should be able to change on on the side of the road with minimal tools in half hour or so.

cheers

Even running 32" rubber you are subject to a cv going. I am getting a set from a wreckers for $160. That's for both sides.

thats a good buy! yeah was considering dropping back to 32s but they just look too horny!

keep in mind, its not so much the 33" tyre doing the damage, its the full 2-3" of suspension lift and the gross CV angle that is produced because of the lift that does the damage

I was going to ask that question as I currently have 245/75/16 going up to 265/75/16 and have a 2"suspension and 2"body lift with a front locker and I seem to be going through cvs the last one broke without much pressure on it at all although they were cheap eBay shit have brought better quality now will the wheel size really create that much stress?

i went 2'' body lift, 2'' suspension with 3'' calmini upper control arms. the vehicle seems to be coping well but havent properly put it through its paces.

Wheel spin is the biggest killer of CV joints, the fitment of a front locker whether it be and auto or selectable will go a long way to saving your joints
