Hi there,
After a 'friend' borrowed our STR 3.0 Di Navara and drowned it we had to have the motor completely rebuilt. Now it has problems overheating.
The motor rebuilders couldn't find the problem so we're trying a new thermostat.. except we can't find where the dickens it is.

Any suggestions please

Cheers

Has the radiator and the condesor been housed out to get the mud etc out ?

Was the head crack tested ?

Invest in a snorkel so you cant drown it again.

Dave.

The radiator was flushed when it went back for a service after it was rebuilt, not sure about the condensor though. They tested eveything when they rebuilt the motor and looking on the invoice the thermostat was replaced.
It only overheats when climbing a range or towing a trailer for a distance, otherwise it can sit on 100km over a few hours with no dramas.

As for the snorkle.. we don't take it in the water, and were not really sure what happened that day. What we were told was that it went through a shallow creek and water splashed into the air intake, but we found sand right through the engine bay.

Thanks for your replies

Thanks guys,
We've decided to get the radiator looked at again. We have done the fan clutch test and it seems to be working fine.

Was the motor rebuilt properly, checked, cleaned, crack tested and built by a proper diesel mechanic?

Also look into the fuel system, is it running the right pressure, too much or too little, could be a cause for overheating, i know if you turn up the fuel pump it can cause the engine to run hotter, it could be gunk in there.

Who's changed the thermostat ?

Easy or pain in the arse.

Think mine is getting lazy.
