1999 D22 - 2.5TD - YD25 - Permanent Water in Fuel warning light, and no charge from alternator fault

Hey

My "new" Nav is proving optimism beats experience ..... Need some help tracing the fault ... Been through the Nissan Workshop manual then quickly ran out of brains / talent .

Symptoms :
Fuel water warning light stays on, even with sensor unplugged
No charge from alternator (warning light always on) e.g. 11.9v with engine running
Battery volts same down to live connection nut post on alternator
Yellow / Black - Alternator charge signal wire 1.9v at alternator connector with engine running
....
Thats as far as I got, havent found any post yet with same issue , but plenty of similar symptoms ...

Any ideas or suggestions welcome!

Not suffering fools gladly.... Fair!
I was overthinking it , the alternator reg was stuffed . Could have diagnosed it easily ... Tried a used alternator and warning lights gone and battery is charging now.
