had an issue the other day, lost most of the power just as i got home.
the usual 0707 code. so changed fuel filter as i had a spare.
however this morning it conked out on the driveway. managed to get it started dropped it off at mechanics to have a look over.
what they noted was it had the wrong fuel filter.

it had a Wix 33138 same as the one i replaced, tho i noticed bottom o-ring didn't fit very well.
checked Wix website, yes that filter is listed for the zd30 navara.

however i checked what their filter was for the old hilux that i have. what do you know Wix uses the same filter on the hilux.
also checked on Ryco's website. Ryco uses two different filters for the navara and hilux. both similar in size but different seal size and thread. no mention on o-ring.

of course big difference is that the old hilux flows a whole lot less fuel than the nissan zd30 does.

the problem is the dealer is a bit of a drive away and they generally charge horrific prices.
these are the same guys that tried to charge me $50 for a single bulb for the dash, which i ended up getting from a light bulb specialist for $2 including postage.

i get my filters off ebay and there cheaper including free postage than buying from the nissan dealer. no driving just order and waite a few days.

I've used rycos for the last 2 changes on my 2.5, never had an issue with them. They do list 2 different part numbers for the zd30 and yd25 now, z334 and z669 or something from memory... Have used both on mine as they only had the z334 listed when I first changed it but can't say I noticed a difference, except for the price... Unless it is a lower micron filter for the common rail motor...

zd30 ryco fuel filter is Z332 and yd25 Z669.
they look to have different seals but possible close enough to be interchangeable.

however there should be a big difference in micron differences. Z332 should be around 40mic and the Z669 should be a lot lower, something like 5-10 mic.
using a 40mic on a common rail will cause a lot of wear.

That number sounds better... Yeah once I saw they had 2 different ones listed I used that one. The primer units are all the same so the filters will fit either...

found a tech bulletin

Ryco have just released the Z699 fuel filter for Common Rail
diesel applications. With a similar external design as the
Z252X, the Z699 has a much high efficiency filter media
inside with a nominal rating of 5 micron.

Awesome. I was looking for a while, but couldn't find any tech info on them... I guess that might be a good option for anyone wanting finer filtration on a zd30

not without a lift pump.
even then it might be marginal. hard to say without knowing flow rate etc.

general rule of thumb is finer it is the more restriction it makes.

however a good thought for YD25 cr owners is you could put the zd30 filter in line with the stock filter. that should reduce the blockage of the stock filter.
