Best A/T's or M/T's for Snow and Ice

I live in Jindabyne and work at Perisher and also own a vehicle in Japan (fitted with winter tyres) - I guess that means I can comment on this? THe best tyres in snow and ice are soft. Mud tyres work well in slushy, wet snow as they will push it out like mud. Long lasting tyres tend to grip...

    Plug 'n' Go

FWIW I have a Steinbauer unit that I put in after a mate raved about it and it is now sitting on the shelf in the garage. My impression was that it is a waste of time and money.

V9X intercooler to turbo pipe replacement

Had a look through the heavy vehicle shop where I work and found some hose the right size. A job for this weekend. The nearest Supercheap is 2 hours away. The joys of country living.

V9X intercooler to turbo pipe replacement

I think I need to do this as well. Had the hose come off yesterday with about 1.8 tonne of boat on the back. Have to agree it doesn't go with no boost. Nice whistle from the turbo though!

    All terrain tyres

BFG's - OK in the dry but slippery in the wet. Had a few guys at work rave about them and talk it up a bit. They need to drive on some other tyres. I get to see the traction light come on a fair bit when you put your foot down on a wet road. Would not buy them again.

Going to the Snow 1st time

In my experience in Australian conditions, muddies work pretty well. Tread depth and compound is important but the main limiting factor is the driver. A worn set of HTs and a driver that jumps hard on the brakes turns a 4wd into a 2 tonne toboggan. The best advice is to leave plenty of room in...

V9X V6 diesel fuel water separator

try http://www.dieselcare.com.au/ they make a kit for the 550. still not that convenient as you need to lift the filter out before you can drain it but it also gives much better filtration

    D40 Fuel Economy

In reality that will be about 11 or so as the dash reading is pretty optimistic. I also found that my economy worsened after the first few thousand k's. Will get low nines on a trip but shorter trips (less than say 20 ks) and towing the boat (1800kgs) sees 14 or so. Still better than what the...

    Chipping a 550

I chipped mine and then took it back out. I had the DP Chip from my previous D40 and sent it back to get modified for this vehicle. It fattened the power a bit and used a bit more fuel (not much). The annoying thing was it stuffed up the shift points on the box. You will hear others having a...
