Just replaced the head on my d22 navara ZD30.

Im concerned that when I put the timing chain back on I may not have had the crank set to TDC. All other timing marks where lined up though.

When I went to start it, it wouldn't start but turned over fine.
Tried priming the fuel lines maybe 20 times and cranking again but nothing.
Sprayed some starter fluid in and when I cranked it, it made a bang.
Now when I crank it it has a knock/ticking noise.
When cranking by hand I can feel what seems like something hitting very slightly.

Anyone got any ideas what could have happened?

all the timing marks lined up? including the pump to crank marks?
if ALL marks where lined up then no way the timing is out.

did you bleed the injector lines before starting?

i would guess it has backfired on the starting fluid.
i would check the valve moments and check the locating pin on the cam gear.
then i might be looking at pistons.

So turns out I made a big mistake and didnt line up the pump to the crank...

Now need to decide whether to take it to a shop or do a full rebuild myself.

i would pull the head and see if pistons are ok.
depends on how much damage is done, you have a choice of buy a 2nd hand engine or rebuild.
could be anything from a major rebuild if bore is badly damaged or minor rebuild if only a piston damaged.
