Just wondering what everyones thiughrs are regarding whether they think the np300 needs a catch can. I enquired with a couple of mechanics today and they both said they dont really need one, but that the d22 and d40 definately do need one. They reckoned tgat the d23 engine was far superior in that regard. Are their any mechanical engineers out there that can put my mind at ease?

once one is installed and you see the oil it catches it would change your mind.
all that oil and carbon going through your intercooler getting baked inside.
I get about 100ml every 10k

Put it this way, my father in law has a 90s model tata telcoline, which apparently has a Mercedes driveline. It has a factory fitted catch can with a line to return the oil to the sump. I'm spewing I didn't get a photo of the setup last time I saw it... So if that's factory fitted, I can't see how anyone can say that any motor doesn't need it. Regardless, the pcv systems all work the same way, the amount of oil that gets through them will vary, but they will all pass oil, it's the nature of how they work...
