I was wondering if anyone could help me I have a 2003 3.0l Turbo Diesel Nissan Navara dual cab that has just the head machined and refitted as was overheating due to radiator blockage. After vehicle put back together would not start so garage jump started it and now starts fine. But when you drive the vehicle has no guts or power and is so sluggish would take a long time to get to 100km in it and this problem was not there before the head refitted. Vehicle has been to 3 separate garages and the turbo has been dismantled and put back together, injectors and injector pump tested and all tested fine, new ecu fitted ,fuel hose has been taken off and diesel put in bucket to check no blockages. Vehicle has also been into Nissan and they have no answers either. Can anyone please help ????? Thanks

check the basic's like the fuel hoses havn't been put on the filter around the wrong way.
air blockages (seen an injector cap stuck in the inlet manifold before).
check earths have been put back on to the inlet manifold properly.

fit clear fuel hose on the pumps outlet and look for bubbles. any bubbles means air being sucked in. at the worse it could be leaking through the injector return pipes.

egr stuck open, block egr off.

swirl valve being stuck shut.

check sensor connections eg temp sensors. check clearance of crank sensor.

if all fails check cam timing. they might have got the timing chain on wrong or if they over tightened the cam bolts it can cause the locating pin on the cam sprocket to snap and throw the cam timing out.

ok thanks will check all those and let you know how i go. Was told maybe it was the Netural Position Switch???

be odd for neutral switch to suddenly fail. typically you get stuttering when you hit 3000rpm.

put the heat switch on and see if the rpm drops when you put it into gear.

Almost sounds like the turbo isn't delivering.

If you leave it sit overnight and it starts ok in the morning and idles alright, you'd have to think the fuel delivery system was doing its job, so ignore that (if you can start it easily in the morning).

Assuming it idles okay, I'd be looking at the boost pressure. I'd also be looking for leaks around the EGR valve - perhaps the EGR is stuck fully open? Block the bloody thing off, it's bull anyway.

Is a snorkel fitted? One lucky customer at my local dealer brought their car in and they couldn't figure out what had happened, air filter replaced, everything looked perfect, until they removed the snorkel and looked in the end - an unlucky owl had lodged itself in the intake, blocking it off and the only air was coming in through the gaps in the intake where it hadn't been fitted correctly. They actually noticed the busted grille of the intake after that and did the suitable facepalming.

If it's the NPS, you should still be able to take off ok. How's acceleration in first gear?

If the head came off, you'd think the injectors would have been serviced. Hopefully they didn't damage those, let's keep our fingers crossed that it's something else.

very sluggish from take off even in first gear put foot down but just no power very slow accelaration

it is at 4wd drive specialist at the moment but he said last i spoke to him always starts fine now i think but will check

Get them to check boost pressure. If it starts easily, the fuel lines are ok (no need to crank it while the fuel gets pumped up) and the injectors are probably ok too.

Might be worth keeping the bonnet up and giving the thing a solid rev (to 3500-4000rpm) while someone watches the intake hoses, in case they've deformed and are collapsing when the turbo starts to boost - that'll restrict the air intake and you won't be able to tell why.

ok thanks will have a look today and let you know thanks so much for your help 4months without a vehicle and running out of options.

4wd specialist has sent vehicle to Nissan as can not find fault anywhere removed and refitted head pulled turbo apart pump test was fine fitted new ecu and netural position switch still starts fine evey time just no guts under acceleration.thanks

I remember a guy on here had a dodgy MAP sensor.

Car was making crap power and he replaced it and it fixed it.

I was under the impression that a'
MAP, Boost Pressure and MAF monitor different things????
