The clutch in the torque converter can develop hot spots which causes the shudder, try adding a tube of this http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-230/Instant+Shudder+Fixx if that fails you will need a new T.C.

Inside the tensioner is a heavy compression spring, its not hydraulic, although it does have oil to lubricate the the sleeves. Modern belts are made from EPDM, they last forever and have very litttle stretch, but get a drop of oil or coolant on them and they will squeak forever and nothing but...

Check the dipstick. I reckon its a sensor issue.

Try giving the fuel rail sensor connecting plug a good clean.

Replace the fuel filter,check fuel rail sensor plug/wiring. Sometimes it works out quicker and cheaper to take it to a reputable diesel mech to get it hooked up to a scantool for proper diagnoses.

Its a form of limp mode, very common on Patrols especially when the air temp is cold, cleaning the MAF sensor is a good starting point.

Why have you ground the middle of the windscreen hoop? Looks a bit dodgy there.

Compression is the amount that your 2500cc is squeezed, the volume is still 2500cc. Any increase in gas volume would depend on the amount of fuel injected, timing, load, cylinder temps......

Just had a look on Ebay, plenty of low k motors for $5k, (demand the ECU for that price as well) I would go that way. Help from a few mates would have it swapped out in a weekend.
